IAPMO employs a voluntary consensus development process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), gathering the largest assembly of plumbing and mechanical experts in the world at its Annual Education and Business Conference and technical committee meetings, enabling anyone — members and non-members alike — to have a voice on proposed changes to the code.

IAPMO has published the 2027 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) in both hardcopy and electronic versions. This process brings together volunteers representing a variety of viewpoints and interests to achieve consensus on plumbing and mechanical practices.

The USHGC is a model code developed by IAPMO to govern the installation and inspection of solar energy systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
