IAPMO has concluded technical committee meetings toward the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited development of the 2027 editions of the Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code (USHGC) and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code (USPSHTC).

The technical committees, consisting of a broad coalition of industry experts — installers, inspection officials, contractors, engineers, and manufacturers — considered public comments to amend the USHGC and USPSHTC in advance of the release of the 2027 editions. Their actions to accept, modify, or reject these comments will be electronically balloted to the technical committees for formal voting between May 29-June 26. The results of these votes will be made public in the Report on Comments to be published for review on September 4.

The USHGC technical committee met and considered public comments seeking to amend the code in such areas as: heat transfer fluids, including chemical compatibility and detoxified ethylene glycol; freeze protection for solar thermal and hydronic systems; auxiliary heating for solar thermal systems; cooling appliances and equipment for hydronic systems; disinfection of potable water circuits in solar thermal systems; potable water protection and backflow prevention; dual purpose, dedicated, and tankless water heaters, including sizing and temperature limitations; indirect-fired domestic hot water storage tanks; identification of potable and nonpotable water piping systems; piping systems and materials, including joints and connections, transition fittings between dissimilar materials, dielectric fittings, corrosion protection, and material standards; automatic makeup fluid systems; horizontal and vertical ground heat exchanger installation; site surveys, subsurface investigations, and test wells for ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems; commissioning, labeling, and documentation for GSHP systems; and designer and installer qualifications.

The USHGC is a model code developed by IAPMO to govern the installation and inspection of solar energy systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

The USPSHTC technical committee met and considered public comments seeking to amend the code in such areas as: oxidation reduction potential (ORP); swimouts; construction site fencing and barriers; abandoned facilities; wading pools; finishes and surfaces of swimming pools; decorative bridges and walkways; deck drainage; turnover time; surf pools; wave pools; artificial white water courses; artificial lagoons; water chemistry parameters; deck covers and lids; swimming pool finishes and surfaces; ozone systems; aquatic play features and venues; open water venues; dedicated swim areas; float tanks; gas chlorinators; and other aquatic venues.

The USPSHTC is a model code developed by IAPMO to govern the installation and inspection of both public and private swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs to ensure the safety of their operation.
