2026 Next Gen All-Star: Blake Turner

Changing how the next generation sees the trades

Blake Turner

Age: 38
Title: Member Growth Manager Nexstar Network
Company: Nexstar Network

Blake Turner grew up around the trades, working alongside his grandfather and father in carpentry and HVAC. At 17, a close friend working for a commercial electrical company helped him land an opportunity working afternoons and weekends.

“What started as something I had grown up around quickly became my own career path, and I’ve been in the industry ever since,” Turner said.

One of the most rewarding parts of that career has been helping change how people view the trades.

“For a long time, I know some people looked at the trades as a backup plan instead of a career to be proud of … I’ve had the opportunity to help people build real careers, provide for their families, and create great lives through the trades,” Turner said. “Being able to play even a small part in changing that perception and helping someone see what’s possible in this industry is incredibly rewarding.”

His family provides much of that motivation. Now that his son works in electrical, Turner is even more invested in showing young people what the trades can offer.

“I’m incredibly motivated by him and by all the young people entering the trades today,” Turner said. “I want to do my part to change the name of the trades and show the next generation that this can be a career they’re proud of — one that creates opportunity and a great life.”

Beyond the career opportunities, Turner wants people to understand just how essential the trades are.

“I wish more people realized that the trades are what makes this country a first world country,” Turner said. “Without the trades, our infrastructure and society as we know it ceases to exist.”

Turner’s proudest career moment came when he was offered a role as a Nexstar trainer. Early in his career, he worked for a Nexstar member company and remembers watching trainers lead classes and admiring their impact.

“I remember thinking, ‘I wish I could do that one day,’” Turner said.

Years later, becoming one of those trainers brought his career full circle. Today, he gets to help other tradespeople grow their careers, just as those trainers once helped him.

And while Turner spends his workweeks speaking in front of people, his weekends look much different. He recharges by getting out on his boat and enjoying time on the water, preferably as far away from people as possible.
