“One thing I wish people understood about plumbing is there is more than the standard ‘rules of plumbing,’ Spitzock said. “Every fitting and pipe is installed a specific way for code compliance. You put a vent in the wrong location, sewer gas can expel into the home.” 

Knowing his customers are safe because of code-compliant installations is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.

That commitment to doing things correctly has also shaped Spitzock’s reputation.

“His reputation for precision, reliability, and problem-solving has made him a trusted professional among clients, contractors, and peers,” said Jason Cyborowski, president of J&J Contractors LLC.

Spitzock has also played a role in building Cast & Copper Plumbing itself. When J&J Contractors expanded into plumbing with the new division, Spitzock helped establish processes, workflows, customer service standards, and other foundational elements needed to get the operation running.

“He did not simply join a new division — he helped build it,” Cyborowski said. “He stepped into unfamiliar territory, embraced the challenge, and delivered excellence every step of the way.”

Looking back, Spitzock remembers earning his journeyman’s license as a particularly meaningful accomplishment, especially because he didn’t love spending eight hours in a classroom.

He later reached another milestone by earning his master plumber license. When he started school, he knew it would be his career, so he gave it 110%.

“John’s industry contributions begin with his deep expertise as a master plumber, a credential earned only through years of rigorous training, hands‑on experience, and demonstrated excellence,” Cyborowski said.

Outside of work, Spitzock is an avid outdoorsman.

“I started fishing as a child and it turned into being a walleye fisherman,” Spitzock said. “Now, that is what I spend most of my free time doing.”
