Kyla Robinson

AGE: 35

COMPANY: American Residential Services

TITLE: Organizational Development Training Manager

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

3 years.

What drew you into the industry?

I found my way into this industry somewhat unexpectedly. I was seeking a role that would challenge me and offer opportunities for growth. When I was first offered this position, I wasn’t entirely certain this was the right industry for me—but I can now say with confidence that I’m grateful I landed here. The work continually challenges me, and I’ve grown more as a professional than I ever anticipated.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

My role focuses on helping our leaders grow their management and leadership skills. I know that day-to-day, it can feel like their time is spent putting out fires. I get to share tools and strategies that make it a little easier to step out of that firefighting mode and focus more on leading their teams proactively.

What motivates you every day?

What motivates me every day is my team. We’re a small L&D group of seven, but the way we genuinely support and lift each other up makes all the difference. Knowing I’m surrounded by people who have my back—and that I can be that support for them—keeps me excited to show up and give my best.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

My team and I spend a lot of time thinking about the future of our industry. With Gen Z entering the workforce, we’re seeing a shift in how they view careers and the kind of support they’re looking for—especially when it comes to management and leadership roles. Right now, many aren’t interested in stepping into those positions, which means we must start planning differently. This is the moment to be proactive, to create a plan that attracts and develops the next generation for the trades—rather than scrambling to react later.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

Landing this role has been a turning point for me. It’s given me the opportunity to connect with more people across the organization and actively support their success. With the guidance of a leader who empowers me, I’ve been able to grow while helping others thrive—making this truly the most rewarding role I could ask for.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

Most people know this about me—I spent six years as an elementary school teacher before transitioning into training and development. When I first stepped out of the classroom, I was met with some hesitation about whether I could support a predominantly male industry and design effective training programs. What I’ve come to believe—and what I hope others see—is that teachers are often an ideal fit for support roles within organizations. We’re skilled at balancing diverse needs, streamlining processes, conducting root cause analyses, and approaching challenges with a fresh perspective. My advice? Take a chance on a teacher ready to make the leap—you might just see them on a Top 20 Under 40 list in a few years.
