A recent study by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy examined 16 water heater technologies and types, including heat pump water heaters, high-efficiency gas water heaters and tankless water heaters. The study found that these technologies can save 2.3 quadrillion Btu through 2025, or about 5% of projected demand in residential and commercial buildings in 2025.
