Cincinnati-based Chemed Corp., Roto-Rooter’s parent company, has changed its name to Roto-Rooter Inc., recognizing the dominant position of its largest asset. The name change will take effect “as soon as practicable,” and the company’s stock will be listed on the NYSE under the new symbol RRR.

In other company news, Roto Rooter Inc. reported a 4 percent increase in income for the plumbing and drain service business in the first quarter of 2003 for a total of $3.6 million, compared to last year’s figure of $3.5 million.

Revenues were down 1 percent to $64.7 million due in part to Roto-Rooter’s heating and cooling business and non-Roto-Rooter branded operations, most of which have been sold.

Revenues from the company’s franchising activities, as well as product and equipment sales, rose 8 percent from 2002’s first quarter.
