September 4, 2023

Jill Imig

AGE: 39

COMPANY: HGA

TITLE: MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT LEADER

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

JI: 17 years.

What drew you into the industry?

JI: I absolutely love construction. I think there’s something magical about the way a concept starts as an idea on paper and then morphs into a beautiful new building.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

JI: The people. I have learned so much from other engineers, designers, contractors and architects. We all bring different perspectives, not only to a project, but to the industry as a whole. There is so much strength in working together collectively to progress the industry.

What motivates you every day?

JI: The unknown of the day. Each day is so different for me, and when I think I know what will happen, it doesn’t, so I wake up with the attitude of “Let’s see what today brings.” Some days that works out in my favor!

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

JI: This industry has a career option for everyone. Whether you enjoy working with your hands or designing on a computer, you fit in. You don’t need to come onto the job on day one and know what you’re doing — the industry is full of mentors that are just waiting for a motivated individual to teach their craft.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

JI: I think the one thing that continues to bring me the most pride is when I can watch a peer that I’ve been mentoring step away and accomplish projects on their own.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

JI: I have a new found passion for growing leaders in the industry and have started sharing my experiences in Plumbing Engineering magazine.

Why she was chosen as a Next Gen All Star Top 20 Under 40 winner:

“Jill Imig is an amazing engineer and leader at HGA. As an associate vice president out of our Milwaukee office, Jill is the mechanical department head and has established herself as our national plumbing engineer in our health care market sector. Jill is a Professional Engineer, PE, EDAC-certified and has her medical gas design certification from ASSE. Jill is a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering AE program, has served as the ASPE Wisconsin chapter president and has been a huge advocate for women in engineering for the past several years.

“With all of that, I think Jill's biggest asset is her compassion for her teammates and her work. Jill has worked on projects all throughout the country and in a multitude of market sectors. Currently, Jill is leading two national teams on some major projects in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. The Cleveland project is a $750,000 SF R&D facility for Sherwin Williams and the Pittsburgh project is a $1.2M SF Hospital for UPMC. Two absolutely incredible projects that she is leading successfully.” — Cory Powers, principal and Engineering Market Sector Leader, HGA
