Next Gen All Star: Cody Mack

By Nicole Krawcke, Natalie Forster, Editorial Director
Mack
September 20, 2022

AGE: 38
COMPANY: Caleffi Hydronic Solutions
TITLE: Product manager

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
CM:
Just shy of 20 years.

What drew you into the industry?
CM:
I wish I could say that I descended from a long line of plumbers and heating technicians, but my father worked at a General Motors factory. It was a great job and it allowed him to live quite comfortably. However, he hoped for something different for me and he always encouraged me to find a skill that I could take anywhere. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, and after looking through a course guide, heating and cooling was a natural choice. Two years later, I had an associate’s degree that provided a direct route into the industry, quickly doing something that I found to be interesting and enjoyable.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
CM:
My absolute favorite aspect of this industry is finding solutions to challenging problems. Years ago, when I was a service technician, this meant getting the heat running or something to stop leaking for a customer. At Caleffi, this means working alongside our customers with system design, application of product and even developing new product. There’s nothing more satisfying than opening that last valve or flipping on a switch to see your hard work come to life, or helping a contractor to do so.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
CM:
I wish that more people knew about the incredible opportunities in our industry. I’m always astonished by the people I’m surrounded by and their backgrounds. Plumbers, data analysts, engineers, sales professionals and more are all required to keep this industry thriving. There are so many places available in our industry where hardworking professionals can prosper.

What has been the proudest moment in your career so far?
CM:
Although I truly enjoyed my time as a service technician, my proudest moment so far has been making that jump from the field to Caleffi. Trading in my work boots and service van for a desk and a newly purchased wardrobe was terrifying. I was looking for something different and I found it, but who knew if it was going to work out? It certainly did and I’m happy that I took that leap.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
CM:
I’m a motorcycle enthusiast. I enjoy working on them almost as much as hurling myself down a wooded trail or up a mountain on top of one. My children are also starting to ride and it’s inspiring to watch them learn and get excited about riding!

Why he was chosen as a Next Gen All Star Top 20 Under 40 winner:
“Cody is a former contractor who brings great field experience to our team. He worked in tech support, training and now product management. Cody does an excellent job of making training materials relatable to a variety of audiences. His practical experience is well suited for product management because he knows which features have tangible benefits for our installers. He always goes the extra mile to help solve problems. He contributes to the industry by stressing best practices and taking the time to understand the problems installers are trying to solve,” says Max Rohr, education and industry engagement manager, Caleffi Hydronic Solutions.
