“Anything worth doing is worth doing right.”

That’s the slogan of Pataskala, Ohio-based Crawford Mechanical Services (CMS). William T. Crawford III founded the plumbing and heating company in 1993 at the age of 31 after spending his career working for other large contracting companies.

He got started like many contractors — working out of his home. The company then expanded to move into a new location in Columbus, and now operates out of its new facility in Pataskala — one that William Crawford designed himself.

CMS has grown to employ 47 staff members, including William Crawford’s wife, Suzette Crawford, who is the company’s office manager, and his son, William Crawford IV. The company has 23 fleet vehicles and specializes in all plumbing and design work for both residential and commercial markets.

Knowing what you want

When it came time to choose a vehicle, CMS went with the 2020 Chevy Express 3500 van.

“Our service techs love the storage capabilities and the access and space inside to retrieve items during the service call,” Suzette Crawford says.

Since Suzette Crawford designed the company logo herself years ago, William Crawford says she knew what she was looking for in a truck wrap — something that incorporated the company colors of black, gray and red. Pro Grafix of Columbus was able to help CMS with the design, and wrap the vehicles.

“It looks like an old antique faucet with water dripping out,” she says. “I wanted the trucks to be bold, but clean-looking and noticeable when they are driving down the road or in a parking lot.”

Currently, CMS’ commercial vehicles are the only ones without the vehicle wrap, but Suzette Crawford says they plan to wrap them when they buy new vehicles for their commercial business.

CMS boasts 40 years of plumbing and heating knowledge, not to mention respect for its customers. Because the local Columbus market is very competitive with a surplus of plumbing companies, Suzette Crawford says the company likes to try different kinds of marketing — especially anything unique — to help the company differentiate itself from the competition.
