Heat pumps could be the answer to today’s energy demands and soaring costs. What’s needed are the trained technicians that can install, service and maintain this equipment.

A new “Heat Pump Operation, Installation and Service” class is now available through Goodman and Amana distributors. It covers:
  • Heat pump basic principles of operation
  • System components
  • Air flow
  • Defrost methods
  • Balance point
  • Electric heat
  • Electrical control wiring
  • Refrigerant piping
  • Installation
  • Refrigerant charging
  • Troubleshooting
  • Dual fuel systems
  • Geothermal systems
In addition, it covers problems and provides solutions to refrigerant charging, indoor airflow calculations, and methods of preventing unnecessary heat pump malfunctions.

It should be noted that the heat pumps covered in this course are basic systems. The intent of the class is to offer technicians information to build upon, in order to enhance their knowledge of the HVAC field. Before installing or servicing a heat pump system, the technician must have proper training and knowledge of air conditioning/refrigeration theory, principles and operation.

Upon completion of the class, an assessment will be offered to validate that the attendees have the core knowledge to properly install and service heat pumps. Successful test takers will receive an embroidered shoulder patch and Goodman"
