Members of the Southeast Connecticut chapter of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association are working on the recreation of the ship Amistad in Mystic Seaport, Conn.

Volunteering their time at no cost, more than 10 plumbing and heating firms will install the plumbing and heating systems using donated supplies from leading manufacturers such as Elkay, Kohler, Wirsbo, Goulds Pumps and others.

The work covers fresh water lines, gray water, hot water, fresh water pumps, galley sink, shower stalls, toilets, salt water intake lines, and stainless steel duct work for fresh air intake.

When complete, the $3.1 million, 80-ft., hand-hewn schooner will sail as an "educational ambassador," bringing lessons of history, cooperation and leadership.
