JORGE AGUILAR

Age: 25

Company: Oliver Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Electrical & Remodeling

Title: Journeyman Plumber

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

JA: I began my plumbing journey in 2019. Initially, I was hired at Oliver as a remodel technician in 2018. While working in the remodeling department on kitchen and bathroom projects, I was introduced to plumbing. It quickly became my passion, challenging me daily and giving me immense satisfaction in helping customers with their plumbing needs.

What drew you into the industry?

JA: I never had an interest in going to college and studying subjects that didn't excite me. After high school, I explored electrical and carpentry but soon discovered my true calling was plumbing. I loved troubleshooting water heaters and fixing water distribution issues. The thrill of solving different challenges each day drew me in and kept me engaged.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

JA: Every day in residential plumbing is unique. I've been trained to handle various plumbing issues, from replacing water heaters and roughing in new bathrooms to using a jetter to clear clogged drains. Providing solutions for customers' plumbing needs is incredibly satisfying. I also enjoy communicating with customers, making them feel comfortable, and educating them about their plumbing systems. It's rewarding when customers are happy not only with my work but also with the information and options I provide.

What motivates you every day?

JA: My family is my biggest motivation. They have always supported me throughout my career, and I want to provide for them for a lifetime. The daily challenges in plumbing also keep me motivated and excited.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

JA: The plumbing industry isn't as intimidating as it might seem. If you have a passion for problem-solving, this career is perfect for you.

What has been the proudest moment in your career so far?

JA: I'm most proud of successfully completing my four-year apprenticeship program on time and passing my journeyman exam. The hard work paid off, and it was a significant achievement for me.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

JA: I love working out 4-5 days a week. It's my time to focus on myself and build my strength. Listening to music and podcasts during my workouts helps me relax and unwind.

“Jorge began his career with us in the remodeling department, highlighting his versatility and work ethic by stepping in whenever needed. His innate curiosity and enthusiasm for the plumbing trade became evident, and he requested a transfer to the plumbing department. Since the summer of 2020, Jorge’s ascent has been nothing short of remarkable.

“He quickly completed his rigorous apprenticeship with the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC) Association, a notable milestone that underscored his technical proficiency and commitment to professional growth. He quickly rose to the ranks as a licensed Journeyman Plumber. This achievement speaks volumes about Jorge’s dedication to mastering his craft and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

“Jorge’s thirst for knowledge and continuous improvement did not stop there. He proceeded to graduate from the Total Immersion Program, a renowned training program that teaches professionals how to deliver the highest quality and most reliable customer service by providing tailored solutions to their customers based on their individual needs. This program has significantly shaped Jorge into a well-rounded professional who not only excels in his technical duties but also prioritizes customer education and satisfaction. He has used his training to become one of Oliver’s most trustworthy and reliable plumbing professionals — a testament to his exceptional communication skills and deep understanding of customer needs.

“His ability to run service calls, conduct plumbing inspections, install water filtration systems, and complete kitchen and bathroom remodels showcases his versatility and extensive skill set. One of Jorge's standout qualifications is his backflow certification. This specialized training allows him to evaluate backflow devices for both residential and commercial customers, ensuring their safety and compliance with regulations. Furthermore, his OSHA 10 certification demonstrates his commitment to maintaining high safety standards, protecting both himself and his customers on every job site.

“Jorge’s dedication extends beyond his technical skills. His flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile are qualities that set him apart. He consistently works overtime and remains on call to ensure that our customers always receive superior service. This rare level of dedication and enthusiasm are indicative of Jorge’s deep-rooted commitment to his profession and customers. In fact, this past month, Jorge received the Oliver Character First award for ‘Enthusiasm.’

“Jorge’s commitment to continuous learning, his comprehensive skill set, and focus on delivering superior customer service make him a perfect candidate for inclusion on the Next Generation Top 20 Under 40 List.” — Joseph Krasowski
