RESIDENTIAL STORAGE WATER HEATERS

U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for July 2018 increased .8%, to 313,782 units, up from 311,242 units shipped in July 2017. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 8% in July 2018 to 317,692 units, up from 294,070 units shipped in July 2017. 

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters increased 7.2%, to 2,724,717, compared to 2,542,293 shipped during that same period in 2017. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 6.5% year-to-date, to 2,540,567 units, compared to 2,385,818 shipped during the same period in 2017.

COMMERCIAL STORAGE WATER HEATERS

Commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased 14.8% in July 2018, to 6,379 units, down from 7,485 units shipped in July 2017. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 18% in July 2018, to 9,122 units, down from 11,130 units shipped in July 2017.

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters increased 2.6%, to 58,191 units, compared with 56,730 units shipped during the same period in 2017. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 1.7%, to 81,638 units, down from 83,078 units shipped during the same period in 2017.

WARM-AIR FURNACES

U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for July 2018 increased 11.1%, to 263,832 units, up from 237,373 units shipped in July 2017. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased 9.2%, to 1,808 units in July 2018, down from 1,991 units shipped in July 2017.

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 11.6%, to 1,846,173 units, compared with 1,654,582 units shipped during the same period in 2017. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces increased 6.6%, to 16,003 units, compared with 15,007 units shipped during the same period in 2017.

CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONERS AND AIR-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 891,190 units in July 2018, up 7.3% from 830,175 units shipped in July 2017. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 1.5%, to 597,786 units, up from 588,703 units shipped in July 2017. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 21.5%, to 293,404 units, up from 241,472 units shipped in July 2017.

Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 6.5%, to 5,552,806, up from 5,214,936 units shipped in July 2017. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 3.6%, to 3,647,251 units, up from 3,519,619 units shipped during the same period in 2017. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 12.4%, to 1,905,555, up from 1,695,317 units shipped during the same period in 2017.
