Arcweld Industries won the “Urban Employer of the Year” award in recognition of its commitment to apprenticeship and workforce development at Apprentice Manitoba’s 11th annual Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction gala on Nov. 2, 2017. Arcweld Industries is a full-service construction company specializing in on-site welding, structural steel and miscellaneous metal erection.

Arcweld Industries has been a major contributor to building and development of Manitoba’s landscape for more than 30 years. It is a diligent supporter of the ironworkers and welders. The company works tirelessly to support apprentices and ensure constant progression of the apprenticeship program at the Iron Workers (IW) Local 728 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The founders of the company, Ron and Linda Cwiak, have served on ironworker and welder Provincial Advisory Committees and IW Local 728’s Joint Apprenticeship Committee, contributing time and material for training. They have been strong supporters of the IW Outstanding Apprentice Competition since its inception.

“Ron and Linda Cwiak have been more than influential in the growth of tomorrow’s industry leaders and the Red Seal apprenticeship programs for ironworkers and welders owe them a wealth of gratitude for their tireless and diligent participation throughout the years,” IW Local 728 President Barry Chetyrbok said. “I cannot thank Ron and Linda enough for their commitment, enthusiasm and continued support of our training and education programs.”

Arcweld employs a significant number of apprentices.

“It’s an honor to win the award and be nominated by Local 728,” Linda Cwak said. “Arcweld Industries has worked hard to advance government sponsored apprenticeship programs since 1990. We want to give apprentices a solid foundation so journeymen can become masters of their trade. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing apprentices progress through the program and apply that knowledge to gain practical experience in the field.”

Ron and Linda continue to devote their time and resources to apprentice programs and workforce development.
