The Propane Education & Research Council recently launched its Propane Heat & Power Incentive Program, a nationwide research initiative designed to encourage the adoption of new energy-efficient propane-fueled products by businesses and homeowners. Participants can receive up to $10,000 toward the purchase of premium micro-combined heat and power systems in exchange for reporting performance data on equipment to PERC.

Micro-CHP systems, including the Marathon Ecopower and Yanmar CP5WN, qualify for a $5,000 incentive, while Yanmar’s CP10WN system qualifies for a $10,000 incentive. Businesses and homeowners can apply for up to two qualifying products. Feedback will be used to supplement future product development and research.

“Propane is a clean-burning, American-made fuel that can help business owners and homeowners experience the advantages of propane while potentially increasing the value of their homes or properties,” Bridget Scanlon, director of residential and commercial programs at PERC, said. “The Propane Heat & Power Incentive Program lowers the initial purchase cost for qualifying propane-fueled micro-CHP systems, enabling more homes and businesses to lower their space- and water-heating and electric bills.”

The Marathon Ecopower and Yanmar 5 kW micro-CHP systems convert engine heat into energy for water and space heating, ideal for residences, small offices or commercial buildings, and pools or spas. Yanmar’s 10 kW micro-CHP system is best suited for large residences, multifamily housing, restaurants and hotels.

The Propane Heat & Power Incentive Program also offers $1,500 toward Kohler 6VSG and Generac EcoGen 6 kW generator sets, and $5,000 for the Temp-Air Thermal Remediation pest control system.

Propane is currently used in more than 48 million U.S. households for residential applications and emits fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventional home heating fuels and electricity. In 2009, almost 75% of propane sold was for residential or commercial uses.
