The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials held its annual Technical Committee meeting to review proposed changes for the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code and 2009 Uniform Mechanical Code.

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials held its annual Technical Committee meeting in St. Louis during the week of April 23-27 to review proposed changes for the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code and 2009 Uniform Mechanical Code. As part of IAPMO’s consensus process, the development of the UPC and UMC includes an open call for code change proposals from October 2006 through February 1, 2007.

Committees heard nearly 400 proposed changes to the UPC and UMC, and also reviewed and updated extracted material from National Fire Protection Association documents to be included in the 2009 versions of the code. Among the proposed changes are provisions for waterless urinals in the UPC as well as air admittance valves in Appendix L.

All official committee actions will be published in IAPMO’s Report on Proposals, which will be available in August. Participants at the Assembly Consideration Session can advocate their positions either for or against the actions taken by the Technical Committees in the Report on Proposals. That session will be held Sept. 25, 2007 during IAPMO’s Annual Education and Business Conference in Las Vegas.
