According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction employment rose from May to June in 29 states and the District of Columbia. Employment fell in 13 states and was unchanged (or within 100 employees of the May figure) in eight states.

From June 2001 to June 2002, construction employment rose in 26 states, fell in 23 and D.C., and was unchanged in one state. South and North Dakota had the lowest unemployment rates (2.9 percent and 3.2 percent). Oregon and Washington posted the highest rates (7.2 percent and 6.8 percent), closely followed by Alaska and North Carolina (6.7 percent).
