The National Fire Protection Association has announces a provisional approval of the NFPA Building CodeTMproject.

The National Fire Protection Association has announced a provisional approval of the NFPA Building CodeTMproject. Expected to be issued in 2002, the code will be part of NFPA's full set of standards for the built environment, rounding out its Consensus CodesTMset.

All interested parties of NFPA's Standards Council should submit applications for committee memberships. Future technical committees include Building Code Technical Correlating Committee; Occupancy Rules; Structure and Construction; Materials; Building Systems; and Fire and Life Safety. (Current NFPA Safety to Life committee members need not re-apply, unless they would like to participate in other areas.)

NFPA is also soliciting the following information: opinions on the need for the code, available resources for the subject matter, and other organizations actively involved with the subject. All comments should be submitted to NFPA no later than May 5, 2000.
