Buildxact announced how its AI-powered features are directly addressing the critical labor shortage in the home construction industry. By streamlining essential processes and enhancing efficiency, Buildxact is enabling builders to do more with less, fostering a more productive and sustainable workforce.

This initiative aligns with key recommendations from the "Blueprint for Upskilling the Homebuilding Workforce" report by Leading Builders of America and Building Talent Foundation, emphasizing the vital roles of communication, leveraging technology and robust apprenticeship programs in strengthening the industry.

AI-powered efficiency: a solution to workforce constraints

The home construction industry faces an acute and persistent labor shortage, a challenge that Buildxact is actively mitigating through its innovative AI capabilities. The "Blueprint for Upskilling the Homebuilding Workforce" report highlights that "the construction industry will need to attract an estimated 439,000 net new workers in 2025 to meet anticipated demand for construction.” In this environment, maximizing the productivity of the existing workforce is paramount.

Buildxact's AI-powered estimating and project management tools reduce the time and effort required for critical tasks such as material takeoffs, quoting and scheduling. This allows builders to complete projects faster and more accurately, effectively increasing their capacity without necessarily increasing headcount.

For instance, the Buildxact Blu AI-assisted takeoff tool has been used to complete more than 8,740 takeoffs since the feature released in June 2025. Blu users also have completed more than 600 estimates, 10% of which have been sent to customers as a quote. In addition, the use of Blu: Takeoff Assistant has saved more than 13,113 hours (more than 6 years) in time savings against the current industry average takeoff completion rate of 90 minutes. At the average rate of $50 per hour for takeoffs, that represents a savings of $655,650.

By automating repetitive and time-consuming administrative tasks, Buildxact's AI frees up skilled tradespeople to focus on hands-on construction, where their expertise is most valuable. This not only boosts overall project efficiency but also makes the construction profession more appealing by reducing the burden of manual, error-prone processes. The report emphasizes that "leveraging technology accelerates and sustains learning,” and Buildxact's intuitive platform makes advanced technology accessible to builders of all sizes, fostering a tech-savvy workforce.

Bridging gaps: communication, technology and apprenticeships

The Blueprint report underscores the importance of effective communication, leveraging technology, and robust apprenticeship programs as pillars for upskilling the homebuilding workforce. Buildxact directly supports these pillars:

  • Enhanced communication: The report stresses that "Clear, precise, and timely instructions and expectations communicated... are pivotal.” Buildxact's integrated platform centralizes project information, enabling seamless communication between builders, subcontractors, and the homeowner. This reduces misunderstandings, minimizes delays, and ensures everyone is working from the same, up-to-date information—a crucial factor for any home building or remodeling project.
  • Leveraging technology for Upskilling: As noted in the Blueprint, "Leveraging technology accelerates and sustains learning.” Buildxact's user-friendly interface and AI-driven insights serve as a practical tool for upskilling. New and existing workers can quickly adapt to digital workflows to gain proficiency in construction management practices. More than 11% of Buildxact’s users are leveraging the AI-powered features and this experience can prepare them for a technologically enhanced future in construction.
  • Supporting apprenticeship and Training: While Buildxact doesn't directly run apprenticeship programs, its platform can significantly enhance their effectiveness. By providing a structured environment for managing projects, tracking progress, and standardizing processes, it creates a consistent learning experience for apprentices. The report advocates for "Employer-hosted apprenticeships [as] a proven, structured training approach,” and Buildxact's tools can help streamline the administrative burden associated with these programs, making them more accessible and efficient for builders to implement.

“Buildxact understands that it’s not entirely easy to embrace AI,” said Marissa Wagner, chief marketing officer at Buildxact. “Our automated, estimating workflows that are powered by the Blu Estimating Suite of features, are designed to help our building customers learn to implement AI into their workflow at a pace that is comfortable for them—empowering them to send quotes to clients at previously unheard of speed, without sacrificing the accuracy of their estimates. With the need for speed and precision growing, the ability to deliver turnkey, AI-powered estimates and professional bids is a true competitive advantage.”

The Future of Home Construction

Buildxact is committed to empowering home builders with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of today’s construction landscape. By embracing AI and digital transformation, the industry can not only overcome labor shortages but also build a more resilient, efficient, and attractive future for the homebuilding profession.
