October 14, 2024

When Henry Angelery founded AERCO in 1949, tankless commercial water heaters with precise temperature control were nothing but a dream, as were commercial condensing and modulating gas-fired domestic water heaters and boilers. Today, they are industry standards due to the innovations and technologies AERCO has developed during its history. Those are some of the milestones AERCO is recognizing during its 75th anniversary this year.

“For 75 years, AERCO has followed the vision of Henry Angelery and focused on innovating products that revolutionized the market. AERCO has developed several ground-breaking solutions and advanced technologies that have helped thousands of customers increase efficiency and save energy,” said Joe Kalarickal, vice president of marketing and product management.

Moving technology forward

Since its founding, AERCO has developed technologies that have become the standard in the industry, the company says. It has also set the benchmark for verifying performance and receiving third-party validation. AERCO has shaped the market through a number of industry firsts:

  • 1950 – Introduced Helitherm, the world’s first compact, tankless water heater for commercial use;
  • 1980 – E Heater indirect-fired water heater featuring a groundbreaking anticipator for feed-forward control added to portfolio;
  • 1988 – Introduced the KC1000, the industry's first commercial condensing and modulating gas-fired domestic water heater and boiler;
  • 2001 – First boiler manufacturer to receive third-party confirmation of performance efficiency from UL;
  • 2010 – Launched onAER Remote Monitoring, the industry’s first boiler IoT remote health-of-system monitoring tool;
  • 2018 – Introduced Edge Controller featuring full unit setup and control of Benchmark boilers, including seven groundbreaking industry-first capabilities; and
  • 2024 – Launched CFR, the world’s first stainless steel condensing boiler that can be installed in a Category I Vent.

“AERCO addressed lowering a facility’s carbon footprint decades before it was an industry initiative and regulatory compliance consideration. We continue to have that foresight, as we develop technologies and innovations that address the current and future needs of all commercial facility types,” said Kalarickal.

Growth through the years

Since opening its first factory in Englewood, New Jersey 1949, AERCO has grown into one of the leading providers of reliable water heating and boiler solutions, the company says.

Throughout the years, AERCO continued to expand its product portfolio. Its boiler line includes condensing gas-fired, electric, and industrial boilers, while its water heater line includes tankless, indirect-fired, water-to-water and steam-to-water models. Products also feature advanced controls and communications, including the Edge Controller and remote monitoring tools.
