The Radiant Professionals Alliance and PM LIVE honored longtime Plumbing & Mechanical columnist Dan Holohan Jan. 25 at a special reception during the 2016 AHR Expo in Orlando, Fla. Earlier in the day, Holohan had made the last live presentation of his career during PM LIVE, a day-long educational event that also featured PM columnist John Siegenthaler.
Holohan will continue to write his popular monthly Heating Help column in PM, but he has retired from making live presentations to contractors and other industry professionals. Over the last 30 years or so, he has educated thousands of people about hydronic and steam heating in his entertaining, storytelling style.
RPA Executive Director Mark Eatherton and Chairman Mark Chaffee of Taco paid tribute during the reception to Holohan for his contributions to the industry. RPA member Colin Wunder of South Dakota attended the event in Western wear and present Holohan with his “retirement spurs” from his cowboy boots.
Sponsors of RPA’s event were: PM LIVE, Caleffi, Taco, Uponor, Grundfos, Federated Insurance, REHAU, Plastics Pipe Institute and UPS. Sponsors of PM LIVE were: Uponor, platinum sponsorship; Caleffi and Taco, gold; Aquatherm and SpacePak/Mestek, silver; and RPA, supporting.
In front of a record crowd of PM LIVE attendees earlier in the day, Holohan’s topic was “What Hydronics Taught Holohan.” He recounted the lessons he has learned during his 40-plus years in the heating business, which have led him to write 17 books and hundreds of magazine articles. Siegenthaler spoke on “Hydronic Heat Pump Systems: The Latest Design Concepts.”
Next year’s PM LIVE will take place Jan. 31, 2017, during the AHR Expo in Las Vegas.
