The American Institute of Architects has approved the 10-week online course “Mastering Hydronic System Design” for 15 HSW Learning Units. AIA members need 18 learning units per year, 12 of which must be on Health, Safety and Welfare topics. The advanced design course for professionals will be taught by John Siegenthaler, P.E., and begin Sept. 30. Enrollment will be limited to 50 professionals.

The details-oriented course will combine video lessons, reading assignments, and hands-on calculations and homework. It will present both design concepts and tools to optimize hydronic heating systems in a variety of contemporary applications. The goal is to equip students to design state-of-the-art systems for residential and light commercial buildings that deliver unsurpassed comfort, efficiency and reliability.

The course is structured to combine a student’s existing knowledge with new approaches and analytical methods focused on the cutting edge of hydronics. It is not intended as an introductory course.

The course is offered in partnership with Siegenthaler, whose third edition of his textbook, “Modern Hydronic Heating,” was released in January 2011; BNP Media’s CE Campus, which is a source of ongoing professional continuing education; and HeatSpring Learning Institute, which is producing and delivering the course through its Cammpus software platform.
