Manage your operations from anywhere with a SaaS (Software as a Service).

By Kevin Sharma

All contractors have varying requirements in their business processes that can be addressed with their construction accounting software solution. Since construction software technology has improved vastly in the last few years, contractors are faced with software options that they never had before, including Web-based solutions that operate “in the cloud.” These solutions also are known as “SaaS” - Software as a Service - and they’re a great way for entry-level contractors to manage their operations from anywhere.

The initial benefit of using Web-based software is the speed and ease of installation. Since all the information is stored in the cloud, you do not need to purchase or install hardware, eliminating the need for an IT administrator. The savings in hardware costs alone is worth the difference, not to mention most of your training can be done over the phone, rather than in person.

Any updates made to software in the cloud are seamless. No more checking the mail for CDs! Now that all the product changes are applied to the cloud server, you experience the full benefit as soon as you log in after the update. This translates into less money spent on IT infrastructure management and the need for upgraded computer hardware. There is no need to worry about software updates and versions.

In addition to the long-term financial savings, you can save time and money almost immediately. Since your software provider is no longer building the technology around a specific platform, you can use any device to access your information. Run it on any operating system, whether your company uses Windows or Mac.

The most obvious benefit of using a SaaS is that it is available anywhere, anytime. If you can check your email, you can check your construction software reports online. This means that each member of your team can always have a finger on the pulse, leading to a more efficient and ever-ready team. If you can use the Internet, you can use a SaaS application.
