PM Hydronics EditorJohn Siegenthalerpacked a classroom with two sessions ofPMLIVE! Jan. 25 during the AHR Expo in Orlando, Fla. A total of 72 attendees learned about combining hydronics with solar thermal or geothermal systems.

“Solar Thermal Combisystems” for domestic hot water and space heating discussed the essentials of successful combisystem design. The morning class presented several system templates using both antifreeze and drain-back freeze-protection methods. It also showed how these systems are controlled and interfaced with modern boilers and heat delivery methods.

“Interfacing Geothermal Heat Pumps with Modern Hydronics” explored several ways to integrate the efficiency of geothermal heat pump energy collection with the unsurpassed comfort of hydronic delivery systems. The afternoon session discussed designs appropriate for both residential and larger commercial applications.
