The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently provided $45.5 million in grants for the Youthbuild program, which offers job training in the homebuilding industry and leadership skills for an estimated 3, 075 “at-risk” young people (ages 16 to 24). Youthbuild grants help these students, who have dropped out of high school, to earn their high school diplomas and train them for a future in the construction trades, all while helping to build homes for lower-income families.

The grants went to 74 organizations and communities in 29 states and the District of Columbia. For information about applying for a grant, visit www.hud.gov/offices/cpd/economicdevelopment/programs/youthbuild.
