Federal legislation to address the 11 million people living illegally in the United States and regulate the flow of others bound to continue to cross the country's border will be one of the topics discussed at this year's Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors - National Association 124th Annual Convention, Sept. 26-30, The Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Chicago.

Lake Coulson, PHCC vice president of government relations, will moderate a panel discussion on immigration reform, 10:30 a.m.-12 noon, Sept. 27.

The panel discussion will be one of three educational sessions to run at the same time and day:

  • Kirk Alter will discuss how to identify lost time and craft delays on the jobsite and take action to increase labor productivity.

  • The Quality Service Contractors will present a seminar on residential maintenance agreements.

The PHCC seminars are open only to PHCC convention attendees. Two other main events, however, are open to American Supply Association members as the two groups come together for Network '06, Sept. 26-30, also at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Chicago.

  • James Bradley, author of “Flags of Our Fathers,” will give the opening keynote address, 9-10:30 a.m., Sept. 27. Bradley's book tells the story behind the most iconic image of World War II: six soldiers raising the American flag during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Bradley's father, John, was one of those men. Bradley's book has been turned into a movie directed by Clint Eastwood.

  • Oceanographer Dr. Robert D. Ballard will present the keynote address, 9-10:30 a.m., Sept. 29. Ballard has conducted more than 100 deep-sea expeditions, but is best known for finding the wreck of the Titanic in 1985.
