Falcon Waterfree Technologies last fall appealed a decision by IAPMO to not include waterfree urinals in the Universal Plumbing Code. Opponents in California to waterless urinals included the California Pipe Trades Council and Communities for a Better Environment, a consumer group. They claimed the product could harm the health and environment and commissioned a report on the safety of the product.

California has the UPC in its building code. Falcon had support from 20 state water districts on its side, but IAPMO reaffirmed its decision to not include waterless urinals in the UPC in late November. Falcon has another chance to appeal for the next code update.
