The ServiceMaster Co. announced that its preliminary first quarter revenues for 2003 were $735 million, consistent with the prior year’s first quarter. First-quarter revenues for American Residential Services and American Mechanical Services were $151 million, a decline of 8 percent from last year reflecting a reduction in HVAC construction and a moderate decline in plumbing revenue. Despite the decline in sales, gross margins improved in plumbing and HVAC repair and replacement service lines.

The company also elected John Carl to its board of directors. Carl retired last July from his position as senior vice president and chief financial officer at Allstate Insurance Co.
