Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux SA and its French utility rival Vivendi are competing for market share in the U.S. Vivendi spent $970 million to buy Milwaukee, Wis.-based Superior Services Inc. while Suez Lyonnaise purchased Nalco Chemical in Naperville, Ill., for $4.1 billion.
