Truck of the Month: Commander Air, Plumbing, and Electrical

The Pensacola, FL based company changed their branding when they expanded their services offered.

In 1965, Coleman J. “CJ” Commander started Commander Air, Plumbing, and Electrical. Three generations of the same family leadership later, the company is still going strong – but, with a few key changes.

Over the years, the Pensacola, Florida, based company has expanded to new service areas like Escambia, Santa Rosa and Baldwin Counties, and in 2024, under the leadership of Cole Commander, branched out to include plumbing and electrical services in their offerings. When a big change happens in your company, it’s just as important to update your branding as it is to make sure your new technicians are qualified!

One of the first things that I noticed with Commander Air Inc.’s truck design was the bright colors. The bright blues of the background perfectly complement the orange of the text; bold and noticeable. The colors remain consistent throughout all forms of the company’s marketing; look at their billboards, their website and their yard signs, and you’ll see the same colors.  All 23 trucks in the company’s fleet boast their signature look.

Just as important as those bright colors? The company’s mascot; an eagle wearing a uniform and hat in the company’s signature blue, holding a wrench. According to the company, kids love seeing the eagle; they get comments on it all the time! Similarly, adult customers tell the company that they love the bold colors.

What made Commander Air, Inc. decide on this branding? To them, relatability and professionalism had to go hand-in-hand. They wanted to look, in their words, “professional and established, but friendly and approachable.” They worked with Lemon Seed Marketing to create a look that perfectly represented their values and aesthetic.

The bright colors and fun mascot invite you in, while the text on the truck shows their expertise: along with their logo, their services offered are listed clearly: air, plumbing and electrical. In addition, the logo and the year that the company was founded is featured at the front of the truck. “Elevate your comfort … Since 1965.”

For Commander Air + Plumbing + Electric, the refreshed truck design does exactly what effective branding should: it’s recognizable, informative and aligned with the company’s growth.
