The second United States Trump administration embarked on a deregulatory agenda, particularly in the water, environmental, and products sectors. Upon regaining control of the executive branch on January 20, 2025, President Trump started the release of executive orders, memos, and presidential actions in many areas that may be of interest to contractors, engineers, and manufacturers. While the complete scope of these changes is still developing, the mechanisms through which the Trump administration is pursuing its deregulatory agenda vary depending on the focus of the action. I've curated some Trump Administration actions that could affect raw materials, product pricing, product availability, construction, and organizational operations.

Deregulatory actions could have significant implications. Proponents for deregulatory actions argue that reducing regulatory burdens will spur economic growth, create jobs, and increase competitiveness. They contend that many water, environmental, and product sector regulations are overly burdensome and stifle innovation and economic development. The Trump administration states that rolling back these regulations aims to create a more business-friendly environment.

Critics against deregulatory actions argue that deregulation in the water, environmental, and product sectors poses serious risks to public health and safety, and the environment. They warn that weakening water, environmental, and product sector protections could increase pollution, harm people, decrease public health, and exacerbate climate change. Advocates voice concerns about the long-term consequences of these actions.

This push into deregulation has left many jurisdictions working to determine a path forward, either on their own or with others, to fill the gap left by the federal government's withdrawal in regulating the water, environment, and products. This creates a patchwork approach to regulation that increases the complexity of compliance and go-to-market strategies for specifiers, contractors, engineers, and manufacturers, which requires monitoring and vigilance to ensure compliance.

In summary, the second Trump administration's deregulatory agenda in the water, environmental, and product sectors is characterized by a focus on reducing regulatory burdens to promote economic growth. While proponents argue that these actions will benefit the economy, critics warn of the potential risks to public health and the environment. As the administration continues to implement its agenda, it will be crucial to monitor the impact of these actions.
