U.S. Boiler Co. hosted a grand opening Dec. 10 to celebrate its new Engineering and Technology Center in Lancaster, Pa., and to honor Chief Engineer of Product Development Ed Johann, who received an Award of Excellence.

“Ed has worked in the hydronics industry for over three decades in a variety of technical and management roles,” U.S. Boiler President Paul Spradling said. “His contributions to our company have been instrumental for our continued growth and success, and his contributions to our industry as a whole represent an ongoing legacy of excellence.”

Johann was instrumental in the design and construction of the engineering and technology center, which began operations in September. U.S. Boiler invested $5 million in the center, which triples the size of the former testing facilities. The testing area comprises 10,000 sq. ft. and 10 individual stations to test products along with 10,000 sq. ft. of office space, which includes 26 work stations.

“The new center gives us increases in capabilities, capacity and space for safety,” said Gary Hainley, U.S. Boiler’s director of engineering. “It gives us a competitive advantage to test equipment to better meet customers’ needs, which are different than they were 30 years ago.

“We created an open environment in the office space for better collaboration among our product development engineers, support engineers and design group.”
U.S. Boiler manufactures Burnham brand residential boilers at its manufacturing facility in Lancaster. The boilers are offered in either water- or steam-heating systems as gas- or oil-fired units.

U.S. Boiler is a subsidiary of Burnham Holdings, which is the parent company of multiple subsidiaries that manufacture boilers and related HVAC products and accessories – such as furnaces, radiators and air conditioning systems – for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Also speaking at the center’s opening was Burnham Holdings President and CEO Doug Brossman and local dignitaries. The company hosted a separate tour of the center Dec. 17 for members of the media, including Plumbing & Mechanical, Supply House Times, PM Engineer (pme), Reeves Journal and Radiant & Hydronics e-News.
