To help Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association members stay informed of the latest news and provide resources and actions for them to get involved, the association has posted a “Health Care Action Pack” on its Web site (www.phccweb.org).  Members have access to a number of useful tools, such as easy-to-use letters to Congressmen; recommendations on how to reach legislators; a sample letter to the editor; and many educational resources.

“PHCC and the business community is fighting hard to ensure that Congress doesn’t pass a government-run health plan that will threaten private health care,” said PHCC Government Relations ChairJo Wagner. “PHCC believes that health care is best administered on free market principles and supports meaningful health reforms that make quality health care more affordable and accessible, but we cannot support the $1.5 trillion health care package being debated in the U.S. House, HR – 3200 the ‘America’s Affordable Health Choices Act.’”

PHCC opposes the proposal because of these elements of the bill:
  • Employer “pay or play” mandates
  • A government-run public insurance option that would unfairly compete with private providers
  • An income “surtax” on small businesses
  • An increase in the national debt
Following the current Congressional recess, a group of Democratic and GOP tax writers are expected to come up with a health care reform proposal. PHCC says it will be working with legislators, Congressional staff and coalition partners to make sure any health care reform is based on free market principles and will encourage reduced costs to small business owners.
