Keeping Georgia Green

When the Southeast experienced an unanticipated drought last year, Atlanta’s All Phase Plumbing fielded many questions from concerned homeowners about water conservation and energy savings. The 12-year-old company had only recently focused its attention on green services, but it was ready for the challenge and growing customer base.

“As awareness grew, we grew along with it,” says operations manager Julian Scadden. All Phase now handles greywater systems, solar heating installations, tankless water heaters, high-efficiency toilet upgrades and more.

To completely immerse itself - and what grabbed this editor’s attention - the company’s 11 service trucks have been wrapped in a hard-to-miss shade of green that also features All Phase owner Mark Davis.

“Having a person on the trucks really draws the eye,” Scadden explains. When I enquire about the clever “before and after” display on the rear of the vehicle, he tells me about an interesting partnership with Noritz, who basically contracted with All Phase to design the rear of the trucks in order to get the message out about its tankless water heaters.

A Nexstar member since fall 2007, the changes at All Phase came about after moving from the custom homebuilding market to residential service. “We [made the change] at a very opportune time,” Scadden tells me. Though custom homes around Atlanta continue to plug along, becoming “Atlanta’s Green Plumber” has definitely set it apart from the competition.

“It’s opened up a completely new market for us. From various home shows and green events to municipal and neighborhood activities, it all validates what we’re trying to achieve in the communities we serve,” Scadden believes.

There are 23 employees at All Phase, and they’re all trained through Nexstar to provide high-value customer service and answer homeowners’ green questions. Several technicians, Scadden included, are certified through GreenPlumbers USA.

One service All Phase provides anticipates another round of drought conditions in Georgia. “We offer free in-home water evaluations so homeowners are educated about their price per usage,” Scadden says. “We can put a dollar amount on it for them, and if they choose to upgrade to more efficient fixtures, they can realize tremendous savings.”
