The U.S. Department of Labor released final overtime regulations for “white collar” workers under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The new “FairPay” rules expand the number of workers eligible for overtime by tripling the salary threshold: Workers earning $23,660 or less annually are guaranteed overtime, compared to workers earning $8,060 or less annually under the old rules.

The new rules also add new sections for “blue collar” workers - including plumbers, mechanics, operating engineers, construction workers and laborers - stating that they are entitled to minimum wage and overtime premium pay, and are not exempt, no matter how highly paid they are.
