Plumbing And HVAC Competition At PHCC National Convention In Reno, Nev.

Entries are being accepted until June 30 for participants in the Sept. 14 Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association's (PHCC) National Apprenticeship Contest in Reno, Nev. The contest, which will feature plumbing and HVAC competition, will be held in conjunction with the 119th PHCC national convention at the Reno Hilton.

The apprenticeship contest is open to any PHCC member or state-sponsored apprentice who has not attained Journeymen status. A contestant may enter either the plumbing contest or the HVAC contest, but not both.



The plumbing contest will consist of:

  • A pre-contest examination (in the case of a tie, this will be used as a tiebreaker).
  • A complete drain-waste and vent installation for a three-piece bathroom group (water closet, lavatory and shower liner pan).
  • The hot and cold water distribution system for the above installation.



    The HVAC contest will consist of:

  • A pre-contest examination (in the case of a tie, this will be used as a tiebreaker).
  • Setting a furnace, then fabricating and installing the supply and return ducts.
  • Cutting in four registers.
  • Installation of the gas piping and gas vent.
  • Install line set from condenser unit to the coil.
  • Connect thermostat to the furnace and condensing unit.
