Partnering and privatization were common themes at the FedCon 2001 federal construction forecast conference in October. The conference, co-sponsored by CMD Group and the National Institute of Building Sciences, allowed government agencies to present FY2001 construction budgets and programs, and spoke of innovation in contracting methods and construction management.

The biggest new initiative in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' $7 billion FY2001 military construction program is privatization of military family housing, at a rate of six installations a year, with a goal of eventual 100 percent privatization.

The Air Force has 65,000 family housing units that require total renovation. In FY2001 the Air Force will spend $72 million for housing replacements.
