Unicom Corp. announced its latest mechanical services acquisition, Dayton, Ohio-based Rieck Mechanical Electrical Services Inc. The purchase, Unicom's sixth in a year, expands the company's mechanical services business within the Ohio marketplace. Financial terms were not disclosed.

A family-owned business since 1892, Rieck is a leader in the sale, design, installation and service of plumbing, process piping, electrical, and heating and cooling systems. The company joins Unicom with approximately 300 current employees and 1,000 customers in the Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati markets.

Harold Rieck Jr. will continue to lead the company, and its employees will be integrated into Unicom Mechanical Services, a subsidiary of Unicom Enterprises Inc. The only change in the name of the company will be the addition of the tagline "A Unicom Company."

Unicom Corp., with approximately 15,000 employees and nearly $7 billion in revenues, also expects to complete a merger with PECO Energy Co. to form a new company to be called Exelon Corp. during the second half of 2000, subject to certain conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals.
