sustainable building practices and energy efficiency, says the NAHB.
More of the nation’s
apartments and condominiums are going green as multifamily builders and
developers respond to growing consumer interest in sustainable building
practices, according to a recent survey by the NAHB.
The EIA’s Short-Term Energy Outlook notes that
gasoline and diesel fuel prices are following the trend in crude oil prices,
which peaked at $145 per barrel on July 3 before sliding to less than $120 per
barrel by early August.
As they
grapple with skyrocketing energy costs, more homeowners are turning to
remodelers for energy-saving solutions, according to the NAHB’s quarterly
Remodeling Market Index.
The U.S. economy uses half as much energy
per unit of economic output than it did back in 1970, making energy efficiency
the “fastest-growing success story of the last 50 years.”
State
Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) has introduced S.B. 1386, which will require
that all homes in California be equipped with a working CO detector by 2010.
