In 2005, commercial buildings used 18% of the energy in the United States. The U.S. Department of Energy is hoping to change that over the next 15 years with the launch of its Zero-Net Energy Commercial Building Initiative, which strives to make new commercial buildings capable of generating as much energy as they consume.
