The Conformity Assessment Task Force of the Plumbing Manufacturers Institute has re-focused its efforts to streamline the NSF Standard 61 product certification, auditing and testing processes working through the NSF 60/61 Joint Committee. Slow progress previously prompted PMI to study the feasibility of becoming a third-party certifier, but the group concluded that using a process already in place would be a quicker and more cost-effective way to achieve its goals, at least for now. PMI emphasizes that becoming a third-party certifier is still a viable option and may revisit the concept if progress doesn't come quickly.
