Service managers reflect on half a century of oilheat service, May 18-22, 2003.

A half-century ago, the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers (NAOHSM) held its first trade show and convention at the Nemerson Hotel in South Fallsburg, N.Y., with 175 service managers present.

Today, the show has grown into the largest annual gathering of service mangers and technicians in the heating oil industry with attendance figures in the thousands each year.

NAOHSM intends to honor its past and future during the 50th edition of its popular trade show and convention at Hershey Lodge & Convention Center in Hershey, Pa., May 18-22, 2003.

The NAOHSM show features a number of special commemorative events showcasing the industry.

Dozens of antique oil trucks and service vans will be on display during the show. On Monday evening, May 19, attendees can cast their vote for their favorite Oilheat vehicle in the first ever People's Choice Awards.

NAOHSM also will unveil the "The Museum of Oilheating." The museum "curators" promise visitors an opportunity to view vintage burners, antique tools, advertising memorabilia and more.

The 50th anniversary event will be packed with extensive programs, including a trade exposition, numerous management seminars, informative roundtable discussions, vintage rock and roll theme night, banquet awards dinner, tennis tournament and the Dave Nelsen Golf Tournament.

A staple of NAOHSM shows every year, noted HVAC educator Dan Holohan will once again be on hand to address problem customers. Because Holohan's engaging seminars draw such large crowds, NAOHSM has scheduled two separate sessions on consecutive mornings, May 20 and May 21, from 9:45-11:45.

The annual NAOHSM awards banquet will be held Tuesday evening, May 20. Winners of the Dave Nelsen Scholarships and NAOHSM industry awards will be presented. In addition to the Manufacturer of the Year, Associate of the Year, Service Manager of the Year and Hugh McKee Award, NAOHSM will announce the winner of the first-ever Instructor of the Year Award.

There are still a few exhibitor slots available for the 2003 NAOHSM Trade Show, which provides an excellent opportunity for manufacturers and service providers to promote their products, as show attendance has risen in each successive year.

Directions to Hershey Park can be obtained from the NAOHSM Web site, www.naohsm.org, via a printed flyer available from NAOHSM chapters, or by phoning The Hershey Lodge at 800/437-7439 or 717/533-3311.
