For the 14th year, local utilities, associations and contractors are teaming up to make sure the HEAT'S ON for 120 homeowners in the Pittsburgh metro area. HEAT'S ON (Handicapped and Elderly Assistance to Service Our Neighbors) donates materials, labor, time and expertise to qualifying homeowners to ensure proper and safe furnace operation for the coming winter.

Senior citizens and disabled homeowners may qualify for free inspections, service and repair of their heating systems through the program. Candidates are selected by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Western Pennsylvania, Steamfitters Local 449, Equitable Gas, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Dominion Peoples and the county human services department sponsor the program. MCA donates time, equipment and vehicles while the steamfitters provide skilled labor. The utilities contribute funding toward the repair of a new furnace if necessary.
