Katz is the grandson of Leopold Katz, who co-founded the company with his son, Louis. He began his career at Elkay in 1953. Early responsibilities included positions in the shop, production control and purchasing. He was elected corporate secretary in 1960 and shortly thereafter joined the board. Other positions include vice president of corporate planning, and president and chief operating officer. He was appointed to his current position in 1986.
