the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors association is working with members of Congress to keep the current healthcare reform bill from having a negative impact on the p-h-c industry.

In itsPHCC Onlinenewsletter, the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association announced it is working with members of Congress and PHCC coalition partners to keep the current healthcare reform bill being considered by Congress from having a negative impact on the p-h-c industry.

The association says the bill has become a concern of business groups because it requires most employers to provide health coverage to their employees or to pay a fee to the government instead. The bill, if passed, would establish stringent federal rules for health insurance, now regulated mainly by the states.

The bill is at the committee stage in the House and Senate, but the House may still pass its version before the August recess, which begins July 31. “On the other hand,” PHCC writes, “the leadership is starting to get some push back from conservative and moderates in their party. These two groups have received pressure from their constituencies to not support any bill, which will increase the federal deficit.” The Congressional Budget Office has stated the House Bill, as written, will add $235 billion dollars to the deficit over the next decade.
