The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded the Midwest’s first LEED Platinum certification for
achievement in green homebuilding to a residence in the King Lincoln District
of Columbus, Ohio. Due to LEED’s (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
intense certification process for energy and water efficiency, Gerber
provided two of its water-conserving Ultra Dual-Flush toilets and Allerton
faucets to the home and helped earn points.
“Gerber is thrilled to be a part of this collaborative
effort that demonstrates building affordable, beautiful, environmentally
friendly homes is now a reality,” said
Kevin McJoynt,
director of marketing for Gerber. “We are fully committed to manufacturing performance
products that meet the highest standards of water-efficiency, quality and
design at a price point that makes it affordable for every homeowner to take
part in green living.”
The
sustainable home was built by a professional mix of eco-minded non-profit
organizations, government, corporate and educational entities, and is also the
first platinum-certified residential dwelling in the State of Ohio.
LEED for Homes is a
national third-party certification system for energy-efficient, healthy, green
homes. As mentioned, LEED-certified homes complete a technically rigorous
process that includes a home energy rating (HERS) and onsite inspections to
verify that the home is built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally
sound, and a healthier place to live.
To help meet the water saving criteria, the
contractors selected Gerber’s Ultra Dual-Flush toilets offering water at 1.1/1.6
gallons per flush and also the company’s
WaterSense-certified Allerton faucets. As a member of USGBC and a partner in
the U.S. EPA WaterSense Program, the contractors were confident in Gerber’s
products.
“The
U.S. Green Building Council is proud to help celebrate the product of this
collaborative effort and their commitment to greener living,” said
Michelle
Moore, senior vice president of policy and market development, USGBC.
“Their example can help us all live better by reducing our environmental
footprint, cutting our utility bills, and coming home to a healthier place to
live.”
