Food waste disposer manufacturer InSinkErator honored the outstanding efforts of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Auxiliary members by hosting a combined scholarship and awards program at the PHCC annual convention held Oct. 21-23 in New Orleans, La.

Working around the theme “With Teamwork, Anything is Possible,” InSinkErator renewed its longstanding commitment to industry education with a $25,000 donation to the 2009 PHCC Educational Foundation’s “Invest in Your Future” campaign. This campaign is the primary fundraising vehicle for both the Foundation’s contractor education efforts and the National Auxiliary’s scholarship program. The donation from InSinkErator, along with the collective efforts of the Invest in Your Future volunteers, assisted the program in achieving its annual goal of $145,000.

“To date, 1,750 students have received quality education for future success in the plumbing and HVACR industries,” said Bill Jones, PHCC Educational Foundation chairperson. “The Foundation and Auxiliary’s ability to support such a large number of students is a testament to the generosity of PHCC members and industry partners like InSinkErator.”

The PHCC National Auxiliary is comprised of state and local chapters located throughout the country. The luncheon, always a highlight of the PHCC Annual Convention, recognized these organizations and notable auxiliary members for their outstanding achievement and industry commitment.

Terry Giebelhaus of the Arizona PHCC Auxiliary was honored with the Larry Dore Award, given annually to an auxiliary member who has been active at various levels within the Auxiliary and has made a substantial contribution to the industry. As a founding member of the Arizona Auxiliary, Giebelhaus increased membership and raised funds for local community service projects. Currently serving her 10th year as President of the Life Members Club, she has worked tirelessly to promote and support the organization’s impact and reputation. Giebelhaus received a $1,000 cash award and a commemorative plaque.

The Robert M. Cox Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding efforts of state or local auxiliaries who have made an impact on the industry or local community and demonstrate joint cooperation between the Auxiliary and contractor association. Awards were presented in two categories, image and recruitment, and were given to auxiliaries in two different membership groups:
  • Image Award 1st Place (3-20 members) – PHCC of Nebraska Auxiliary

  • Image Award 2nd Place (41 or more members) – PHCC of Minnesota Auxiliary

  • Recruitment Award 1st Place (3-20 members) – PHCC of Delaware Auxiliary
