The Carbon Monoxide Safety Association will host a Carbon Monoxide Safety Training Seminar July 15, 2008, at Intellitec College in Colorado Springs, Colo. The course will help technicians preparing themselves and raise awareness to the hazards of carbon monoxide gases.

Attendees will experience live fired systems and demonstrations of building and duct pressure interferences on common appliances. The seminar is presented in distinct segments that include:
  • CO properties and how it is produced, measured and disseminated; and the health effects of short- as well as long-term exposures.

  • Basic testing procedures, overview of combustion analysis and use of test instruments. A primer on how building and duct pressures effect the production and distribution of CO are also reviewed.
COSA has selected IntelliTec College for this venue as it is home to the highly renowned and newly expanded “Apartment of Death,” a unique facility that demonstrates real-size problems associated with furnaces, water heaters and other combustion systems commonly found in buildings, and where duct and building pressures highly influence their safety and efficiency.

“Every technician entering a building should recognize health symptoms associated with carbon monoxide exposures,” COSA states. “Every technician entering a building should be aware that if they are not monitoring the CO levels, their own safety may be in jeopardy.”

The Carbon Monoxide Training Session will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15, 2008, at Intellitec College, 2315 Pikes Peak Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. For additional information, call COSA at 800-394-5253 or visit www.cosafety.org.
