According to a recent blog on Forbes.com, executives agree
that solar PV panels, which convert the sun's rays directly into electricity,
are great for residential rooftops, commercial rooftops, small fields and
places where the sun isn't consistently baking hot. But, they say,
solar
thermal technology, which concentrates the suns rays with mirrors and
shines them on a fluid that is heated to create steam and then electricity, is
far better at producing lots of power, it's cheaper per kilowatt-hour and it is
far better for utilities because the power output is more steady and can be
stored for at least short periods of time.
